When creating a navigation bar should i place it within the header div and assign it a class id, or should I create a div just for my nav bar? Thank you.

There's no rule for this, you can do it either way.

Many will recommend to you to treat your navigation as a list of links, thus using the UL element.

As in...

<ul class="yourstyle">
<li>Home</li>
<li>About</li>
<li>Contact Us</li>
<ul>

And then style the ul with the 'yourstyle' class. I'd always recommend this approach for simple menu bars...and most menu bars should be simple IMO.
