Hello Everyone,

I have recently installed the lightbox extension for Dream weaver CS4 and I think I have followed instructions correctly but, it's not making any sense on how to assemble my photo gallery. It is also not making any sense on how to view the gallery in a web broswer. Is it another URL outside of the web site?

Please help with this...

thanks,
Kevin

DWcourse,

Thanks, that did help! When I launch the page locally containing all of the photos the images show up broken but, when I click on a broken link the load screen starts put nothing ever loads. I am assuming that must be lightbox.

Maybe I'm still doing something wrong...

Thanks,

Kevin

Actually sounds to me like Lightbox is working but your image links are wrong or they are not uploaded to your server or are in the wrong place. If LB launches but sticks on the load screen it is trying to find your images with no success.

Hello,

Yes, that does make sense. What might be your recommendation to remedy the issue if the problem is that LB simply cannot find the images?

My web page is located in a folder called gallery and the images are up a directory called images i.e. ../images/image_name.png for instance.

That's the way I have them linked but, LB still can't find them. Any thoughts?

Thanks again,

Kevin

Can you post one of your links for the lightbox please?

OK, the actual link isn't pointing to an image. It is pointing to something called menu.asp

Corrisive,

Thank for taking a look!

So, would the correct link look like this??
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
<a href="images/food_menu.png" rel="lightbox[Live Entertainment]"><img src="images/food_menu.png" width="130" height="98" alt="menu">

That would make more sense to me. Although you really need to produce a thumbnail image for the actual link and that opens a larger image in the lightbox.

Have a look here where we have used it (site is a WIP btw)

http://steelpress.net/projects/tiles/index.php

Click on the 'inspiration' links on the right.

Okay, great!

I'll take a look at the WIP site. How would I go about making thumbnail images out of all the pics that I have for this site?

Thanks again,

Kevin

Just shrink/cut them down in whatever graphics programme you are using.

Okay, I am using adobe photo shop. Since they are all .png images I can shrink them down to whatever size I would like. What size would you recommend? Also, When I am adding the links to LB am I supposed to acutally select the image twice?

Meaning, I select (double-click)on the actual image on the site in dream weaver which opens up the pop up window to select an image then, I select (double-click) on the image again to complete the selection.

Next, with the image still highlighted I open up LB and add the selection?

Thank you,

Kevin

I don't mean to be awkward but, whatever size fits your layout!

You'll need to venture into code view and handcode lightbox. Make your links that way.

No problem,

I appreciate your help. That makes sense. I just wanted to make sure that I do not make the images to large for LB. I was just wondering if there is a size limit is all.

Now that I have a format to follow as far as how the links should appear I should be okay.

Working Link

<a href="images/food_menu.png" rel="lightbox[Live Entertainment]"><img src="images/food_menu.png" width="130" height="98" alt="menu">

Sorry, I see what you mean. I thought you were asking how big to make your thumbnails! I try and keep images at max 500px - 600px wide and tall for lightbox but remember to experiment and test what you have built :)

That's quite alright.....thanks for sticking with me through 2 pages of posts here! lol

That work's out pretty good then becuase my images are roughly between 200 - 250px wide and between 150 - 200px tall. So, I am WAY within range.

Thanks,
Kevin

That's cool, no problem. I am trying to design a site for a Frankie Valli tribute band and it is boiling my brain to be honest. Really hard to get right. You have been a welcome distraction! Lol.
