I deleted a lot of messages amongst which was an explanation of the word 'wrapper'. Sorry, I must ask again. I translate that word to mean the main container on a page. Or the main div. Correct?

Having problems lining up the sub divs to get 2 columns to allign at a certain no of px from the div above. If I do a left and rite div, say 15 px margin from the above div, and the proper margins left and float the correct div left, the lower rite div does not allign. When I hover over the area, a thin yelo line appears surrounding the entire row in which the correct div (which also has a line around it), which I assume is some sort of cell that i can't control. Also, when I write a rule for the 'left' column, then a rule for the 'rite', the word 'left' sometimes overwrites the word 'rite' and I can't get the correct rules to correspond to the correct div.

this is getting more and more frustrating everyday.

I wrote this post before but it isn't appearing, so I must not have hit submit, so here goes...

wrapper means what it is a wrapper, something that wraps around all the content. This is just an arbitrary word though you can call your main div anything you want although wrapper and container are frequently used.

You should try to use ID's and classes that describe the content that they contain though rather than they're purpose for instance header would become branding, sub div would become mainContent etc....

for the purpose of learning to code, I am using left and rite temporarily. I can rename them later. This is a test.

I am including the code to try to find out what is wrong. Why don't my divs line up? Why do i get extra rows in the rite div? Why does the left tag have a p and the rite does not? Does this mean anything in reference to the extra row? I've tried this many, many different ways.

I'm amazed that you were able to get into my post and edit it. How did you do that?

And how can I not violate the forum code again?

you have lots of empty <P> tags between the divs
try this<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
