Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to DW. Have a little question. Hope someone can help.

Im designing a site in PS and have made the slices to put into tables into DW. There is a gallery page which I have also designed and would like to fit the swf file for the gallery into a designated space. When I insert the swf DW places it at the bottom of the page. Now I dont know much about td, div tags and so on, so if anyone can help please make it simple. Thanks in advance.

Firstly you need to make sure that swf file has the same dimensions as the table cell that you want to insert it into.

Then you need to ensure that the table cell as a background image not a standard inline image. If you're using DWCS3 you can change this in the Properties Inspector, put the cursor in the cell and look for the background image setting in the prop inspector. You will need to remove the inline image first.

In CS4 Adobe have removed this setting and I think you need to add it by amending the code.

The next post will say so I may as well save them the time, tables really aren't the way to go. If you are just starting out you'd be far better learning CSS and laying things out properly without tables.

Thanks.

I know tables are a frowned upon technique, but I didnt know how else to get my design into DW (CS4). From what I understand CSS is used mainly for type layout and styling. I wouldnt mind using CSS it just seems to techy for me?

From looking at my design how would I go about using CSS? or is that asking too much?

Would depend on just how you have the images sliced.
Are you wanting the orange image above to be the background image for the pages?

As soon as a user clicks one of the galleries I want the site to go to a central gallery page with the flash gallery within the light orange area. I want to have the flash gallery on the right side with thumbnails going down one side and links to the rest of the galleries on the far left. Using tables the flash gallery is not laying on top of the lighter orange graphic. Thanks for any help.

In simple and with no testing,

Create a container div that will hold all the page content
Have a div that will hold the upper portion of the image
A main content div
You will then need three divs either floated or fixed. (Left, right, & center)
Finally a footer div to hold the bottom of the image and display information you want in the footer
Place the content you want into the respective divs.

Any chance you could break that down to a step to step? I honestly dont have a clue where to begin in DW let alone 'make divs' lol... thanks

 LOL, Yup could do that but the post would be verrrrrrry looooong.

Take a review of the tutorials (http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/tutorials.php) and your manual for starters.
