Nothing, it's just the file extension. Both will work just fine.

why say xhtml is more professional?

why say xhtml is more professional? Are you asking why some say it's more professional? I've never heard anyone say that. IE cannot render XHTML so I don't think so.

How is your HTML skills? Unless you know HTML, talking about XHTML is fruitless.
