I have noticed that the alt text you provide for an image in the properties menu pops up as a tool tip when you preview the page using IE but doesn't using firefox. Anybody know why? And how to fix this if possible?

IE does show alt tags and compliant browsers (like firefox) don't. You can use alt tags in firefox and if the image is not displayed, such as if the user has a screen reader or uses text only, then the alt tags will be displayed in their place in FF. This is what alt tags are for. Firefox doesn't need to be 'fixed' it is doing it correctly...IE needs fixing

Try 'title' on your images as an alternative to alt tags in compliant browsers.

As Corrosive said the Alt tag is only displayed in IE as a Tooltip, its really only supposed to show up if an image is missing so the way that compliant browers interpret it like Firefox and Safari is actually correct.

My only point is don't use Title tags instead use both and then you are still using the alt tag as intended but you get the tool tip in all browsers.

Yes, sorry. Should have made that clearer. You still need alt tags for your page to validate so use alt and title.

He, he. Yes indeed, attributes...not tags. If we combine our three posts we've got a pretty comprehensive answer.

I'm putting my smartypants on: None of these are tags, but attributes. They go inside the IMG tag like so:
<img title="Title for tooltip" alt="Alternative description for readers with img support">

Hi all, thanks for all the replies. I just want to be sure im clear on something. When we say tittle we are talking about that little space at the top of the DW page where it looks like your naming your page correct?
