View Full Version : To Pay Or Not To Pay? Ftp

Hi to all:
Over the next few weeks I will be hosting my first site, narrowed it down to hostgator or eukhost on recommendations from this forum.
However I am a complete novice to this and I understand I will need FTP, my question is which type?
I have been reading up as much as possible but do not understand why some are free and some require payment. Could someone take the time to explain this and maybe recommend where to find?
Many thanks

FTP trnasfer comes free with your hosting account, it's a non-issue. You don't pay extra for it.
For another great cheap host, look at site5.com.

Your host will give you full information about how to transfer your site using FTP to your hosting space.

Thank you very much for your advice but please remember you are talking with a complete novice. On hostgators’s getting started page they have the option to use a ftp client (http://www.hostgator.com/ftpclient.shtml) or cPanel's File (http://www.hostgator.com/filemanager.shtml)manger.
On these linked help pages it tells me (I think) to use one of the various client FTP options (some free, some require payment) or there file manger. Yet you kindly tell me I need nothing of the sort. Please bear with me a little longer and explain a bit more.
Will also check out your suggestion for a hosting company
Many thanks again.

You use Dreamweaver to transfer all you files. You do not need a separate FTP client. The manual/help files that is integrated in DW has all this info.
