Hi All,

I've setup a website with embedded Windows Media Videos, however i'm having real problems trying to play the Video in various browsers, Some work, Some just need additional updates etc.. but in general it just isn't consistent.

Here is the code in dreamweaver:
<script type="text/javascript">
AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0','width','140','heigh t','140','src','Banner','quality','high','pluginsp age','http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash','movi e','Banner' ); //end AC code
</script><noscript><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" width="140" height="140">
<param name="movie" value="Banner.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<embed src="Banner.swf" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="140" height="140"></embed>
</object>
</noscript></div></td>
</tr>
</table>
<table width="615" height="412" border="0" cellpadding="6">
<tr>
<td height="47" colspan="2"><p align="left" class="style2">Install the latest versions of Windows Media Player: <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx">Windows Media PLayer 11</a></p>
<div align="left"></div>
<div align="center"></div></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td width="259" height="130"><p align="left" class="style2"><strong>Batman Begins</strong></p>
<div align="left">
<ul>
<li class="style5">Exploding House</li>
<li class="style5">Nitrogen Catapult</li>
<li class="style5">Monorail Sequence</li>
</ul>
</div></td>
<td width="326"><div align="center">
<script type="text/javascript">
AC_AX_RunContent( 'classid','CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95','width','300','height','240','id','m ediaplayer1','title','Batmanweb','src','BatmanWeb. wmv','filename','BatmanWeb.wmv','autostart','False ','showcontrols','True','showstatusbar','False','s howdisplay','False','autorewind','True' ); //end AC code
</script><noscript><object classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95" width="300" height="240" id="mediaplayer1" title="Batmanweb">
<param name="filename" value="BatmanWeb.wmv" />
<param name="Autostart" value="False" />
<param name="Showcontrols" value="True" />
<param name="ShowStatusBar" value="False" />
<param name="ShowDisplay" value="False" />
<param name="AutoRewind" value="True" />
<embed src="BatmanWeb.wmv" width="300" height="240" autostart="False" filename="BatmanWeb.wmv" showcontrols="True" showstatusbar="False" showdisplay="False" autorewind="True">
type="application/x-mplayer2"
pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/MediaPlayer</embed>
</object>
</noscript>

Any help with this would be much appreciated, bottom line is that i prefer the look of the windows media player viewer to Quicktime etc.. however i am happy to look at any suggestions to making sure this works in as many browsers as possible and as consistently as possible

Thanks in advance

Duncan

Take a look at the source for this page:

http://www.cookwood.com/html6ed/examples/multimedia/newwmv.html

The drawback to it, besides requiring Windows Media Player, is it doesn't work with Safari 2. It works fine with Safari 1 and 3.

The link before the closing object tag only shows up if the plugin is missing or unsupported and allows the wmv file to be downloaded.
