View Full Version : IE6 and Windows Vista

Hi all,

Has anyone got a good work around for running IE6 on Vista. As many of you will know IE6 does not run on Vista. I have to use an old laptop running XP to check compatability of my sites for IE6. This is a pain as I have to put sites live instead of testing in my local environment, so any advice would be helpful.

Regards, Paul

Get the Windows Virtual PC, it's free, and then download the free image of IE6 running on XP that MS has made available, also for free.
By using a Virtual Machine you get to test in an isolated environment and you won't have a lobotomized windows, like one I have sitting dead on a shelf here, because you tried to hack windows. ;)

Now once you have the virtual machine, you might want to give Ubuntu a run as well..

Excellent! I've got this thing going now. I didn't know there was an os image. I was afraid I would have to supply the os myself. Now I've got FF2 back as well. :)

you can also have firefox 2 as a portable app (runs from usb, cd, HD,.... as a stand-alone app.)

IETester, which Dave linked above, works fine on my 64bit Vista.
