View Full Version : Best way to get this navigational style?

I know a forum is a bad place to ask broad questions, but I was hoping someone could tell me what software or tech I could use to get this effect (see pic below). I can do the legwork myself, I just don't want to waste time learning something that can't work.

This seems pretty easy. I need a horizontal menu with background, rollover pics (to go from the lighter gradient to the darker). Then I need sub-menus to drop down from that. I've tried spry but I'm having trouble formatting the buttons to accept background images. Also, I read Spry was not good for that.

Should I look into fireworks? Or can this be done in dreamweaver? Surely this isn't all that difficult. I see it all the time. I'm flexible on the gradients in the drop down sub-menu. I can live without those.

Any pointers you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT: Just to give you a sense of my skill level...I'm not a TOTAL newbie, but still pretty green. I've read and worked through the Dreamweaver Missing Manual and I'm trying to build my first site.

i would have thought it can be done with spry but for alternates, have a look at cssplay.co.uk

I've looked at that page but haven't found exactly what I want. If you're sure I can do it in Spry I will redouble my efforts in that area. So long as it is possible I am happy to do sweat it out. Any tips on how to best proceed?
