Hi, for a new project the client has stated they dont want any scrollbars. The main content is an interactive panoramic image. Currently this image is set to 800 width X 440 Height.

They want it to be wider....how wide should I go?

1024?

I always work at 964px wide now. I think this should now be the new standard designing sites for 800 x 600 does my head in.

Any one running a resolution of 800 x 600 in my opinion doesn't deserve to get the optimum viewing experience.

I know others on this forum disagree and I suppose in some situations there are exceptions but that I how work any how.

If you go any bigger and an end user is only using 800x600 screen res you will get scroll bars.

Can you not create two different sizes and check the users screen res using javascript before displaying the content.

si the widest I can go guaranteeing there will be no scrollbars is 964px?

Do you know of any javascript code that will do this, check the screen resolution and load the corresponding size for the res?

How is this done?

cheers for the replies...

si the widest I can go guaranteeing there will be no scrollbars is 964px? Handheld devices have a smaller res than that. One way to fix this is to explain the nature of the web to your client :)
