Ok very new to DW but have messed around for about 2 weeks with it. When I layed out may basic page and got it to where I wanted it and saved it as a template and went back into it to procced I lost all my background images. It's back to the default colors in the template I used in the first place. What happened??

Thanks

difficult to say but is the code for the images there? look in split view, select where the images should be then look in the code to see if <img src=....... is there

no the code is there! Example:

*/
{
float: left; /* this element must precede in the source order any element you would like it be positioned next to */
width: 22%; /* the background color will be displayed for the length of the content in the column, but no further */
padding: 15px 0; /* top and bottom padding create visual space within this div */
background-color: #EBEBEB;
background-image: url(file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Radl/My Documents/Lloyds Site/Images/Backgrounds/Grey%20Check.gif);
}
#sidebar2 {
float: right; /* this element must precede in the source order any element you would like it be positioned next to */
width: 23%; /* the background color will be displayed for the length of the content in the column, but no further */
padding: 15px 0; /* top and bottom padding create visual space within this div */
background-color: #EBEBEB;
background-image: url(file:///C|/Documents and Settings/Radl/My Documents/Lloyds Site/Images/Backgrounds/Grey%20Check.gif);
}
But when I go to css styles and click on #sidebar1 I don't find the link. Or any of the links I used to set the backgrounds for specific parts of the page. Whats going on??

Thanks

Site definiton where do I find that?

Also can upload .html files for you to view or just screen shots? Not published yet.

In 'manage sites' in DW. It's the first thing you should do when you start a new project/site IMO.

I have that set up, but what am I looking for?
Sorry new to everything. Everything is in one folder with subfolders. See Attached

What does your site definition look like? :-)
And did you set it up before or after you started developing the website?

Edit post read wrong response. Ok I see what you are saying (file:///C|Documents I looked at all my templates code and I can't find that if I just open up the .dwt file under open the problem starts when I go file, new, page from template and open it up through there then thats when I get the problem. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Ok I'm lost. I set it up meaning I put all files needed into the folders and sufolders so that evertything points to where it needs to be. Then started to create.
Sorry don't really understand "What does your site definition look like"

Yes, but have you used 'manage sites' and created the info that DW needs to set it up correctly i.e. FTP details, root folder etc?

About the only thing I did't do was set default images folder because I have a folder called images then subfolders e.g. backgrounds, buttons, pictures, logo. Otherwise it all looks good to me. Also please read last post I was in the middle of editing it when you posted.
Thanks

Also does it matter if I have the links relative to document rather than site root? Otherwise I have everthing else set except default images folder. But I have everthing pointing to for images where it needs to be because I have multiple folders for different images. Everthing looks fine in code untill I convert to template and go and create new page from template, thats when I loose everthing.

Just as a thought...When you make a new HTML page and then try and apply a template to it, the first thing DW asks you is if you want to save the page as something. Are you saving it or pressing 'no' and saving it later?

Yes I've tried everyway I can think of. I must be doing somthing wrong. I worked all night and redid my page and made a new site from scrach. It still looses evertything and now it looses all formatting so everything is all over the place. So I have three sites and nothing working. I'm using the template HTML, 3 column liquid, header and footer. I can't quit get it to look the way I want to though but thats another question.

I feel for you mate, that sucks :( Honestly, without seeing you working it's really hard to tell what you are missing/doing wrong. I've kind of exhausted all my suggestions.

Ok so what I do is go new blank page, HTML, 3 column..., create, put what I want into the page like Logo, pics, links that are all going to be the same on each page. Then save as template. So do I put main content as editiable region because that is the only thing I need to change. Header, Sidebar 1 and 2 and footer are all going to remain the same. Or open up 3 column and don't do anything but save as template. Then go from there? I've been all over the web looking how to set up web pages in dreamweaver but nothing shows me anything I don't aready know after playing around with it for 80+ hours.

And then create the rest of your pages from this template, yes? So blank HTML and then save it as what you want the page to be called and then apply template to page.

You'll need to set your editable regions up, at least one and I would suggest that 'main content' would be the best place to start.

Ok question took my test html page made main content editable but it says "you have placed the editable region inside a block tag. users of this template will not be able to create new blocks in this region. move the region utside the block tag if you want users to br able to do this."
