View Full Version : font sizes in IE vs. Firefox

an old question, I know, but I have yet to find a simple answer (if there is one) -

all my text is in tables - it looks the way I want it in Firefox, but IE will display it larger (and therefore distorting the layout within the table) - any way to make the text appear the same in both browsers (without changing their default View zooms (Normal in Firefox, and Medium in IE) ?

post a link - and if you're using tables for layout then consider using divs instead ;)

here's the site to look at: www.mantlermusic.com

sorry to be ignorant - what is a div? how to use it? and what exactly would that do? solve the size problem?

and wouldn't that be an enormous amount of work to change on all pages? (although so would probably any other rectification)

look at this page (with IE6 Text Size set at Medium, and in Firefox 2.0 with Text Size at Normal) - I see a very drastic difference ....no?

if i were you and had the time and inclination i would strip out all those font tags and use an external stylesheet to control the text, using percentages rather than those old style 'size 5' type things ;)

some places to start are

i would lose the frames (oh and the tables too, but definitely the frames) as you can't bookmark them (only the main frameset) and many other drawbacks.

all this would depend on how much commitment you can make in terms of learning and time ;)

that would indeed be a lot of work, but you're right, of course, it should be done that way ...
thanks for info
