View Full Version : Swap PNG out for a GIF if IE6 is detected?

I promise that I really did do a search around here looking for a fix for this, to no avail. Is it possible to swap to a .gif instead of a .png, if IE6 is used? If so, would someone be so kind as to post a link?

Thank you! :)

Conditional comments maybe? Is it for a background image?

Yes, I have a rather large .png that is on top of a background color. I have put it in the body rule.
body {
background-color: #70985A;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: top;
background-image: url(images/curls.png);
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 101%;
line-height: 1.2em;
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
text-align: center;

}I do have a .png fix on my site and it seems to work fine with small things like buttons and such however this large one just does not render well in IE6.

Here is the link to the page:

Actually looking at your link, you don't have to make it a png. Make it a gif. There's no advantage making it a PNG when it lies on a solid color.

OT: Is that Sindarin on the page?

Thank you domedia. I think you are right, and I will simply make it a .gif.

No it is not Sindarin, however you are close. It is Quenya.
