Hi all (and Rob)

If I want to cut an object (say a person) out of a plain background I find the magic wand tool and 'layer via cut' tends to get good results. The only issue I have is that when cutting an object out of a white background and there is white on the object the white gets cuts as well. 'Subtract from selection' is a bit hit and miss. Question really is 'is there a better way to cut out an object from a background?'.

Cheers

The only true way to get it accurate is to get yer pen tool out and make a path... Do you do much vector work? The nodes work the same as illus / Corel...

There's no quick fix for cutting out unfortunately.
Paths Panel >> New Path >> Pen Tool and get drawing...
If the edge is too harsh then select the layer and feather by a few pixels.

Of course there is a tutorial on this vey site > http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/photoshop-cropping.php

Let me know if this makes no sense and I'll post an imaged guide...
Just looking for an excuse :-P

or...
use the magic wand... then go to quick mask mode and you can paint/erase the areas that are 'eating' into your main image.

PS; I don't use the 'non-destructive' method noted above... I'm hard like that.

Thanks guys

I'll give all three methods a try and see which one I get on with best. I guess there is a few ways of doing it it's just knowing the right method for the task in hand.

You're upset that you can't just dial in the coordinates and let a machine do it for you !
