 Hello Everybody,

Let me start off by saying that I'm a VERY new, VERY inexperienced user of Dreamweaver. I'm a Magician and I want to get my website up & running. I downloaded a pre-made template complete with HTML page, Images folder, Source Folder, and CSS Style file. I liked the basic design & layout, so I have been editing the template for the past week or so. Yesterday, I FINALLY got my Home Page EXACTLY like I wanted, saved the changes to the file, Index.HTML, and now when I open it up in the Design View of Dreamweaver, all I see is a BLANK WINDOW!!! When I switch to the Code View, or combination Code/Design View, I can see the code, but still nothing in Design View. If I open up the preview in the IExplore browser, the page is there, links all work, everything!!! I tried to make a copy of the file and open that, change the name and open that, email it to a friend and he had the same thing. Finally, I opened it in GoLive, and it came up fine in the Design View!!! I have saved changes to this file on numerouw occasions before without incident. Can ANYBODY help me? I want to upload my pages to my web hosting company, but I have to make some final changes and link some pages properly. I want to be able to complete my editing in the Design View of Dreamweaver. I want to thank anybody and everybody who might be able to help me with this for taking the time to respond.

Thanks

strange problem, design view is temperamental at times but if the code is there you should see something especially if its viewing in a browser.

You haven't got any display filters selected or something like this have you? Click the eye icon and check.

Failing that you could try just setting the work space back to default see if that has any effect.

Go to Window Menu >
Workspace Layout >
Default

Step 1. Did you 'define a site' before you started working on this. If not you haven't even looked in the manual before you started working with DW.. :)
Step 2. You don't save the template file as a html file. Go back to the manual about using templates and read about making a web page from a template :)

Hi all,

Here is my question: On click to the Registry button, the link is http://www.thequiltingschool.com/stream/users/registration.php

I found Registration.php and CSS file in my Dreamweaver folder, but can't find the html file.
I need to add another textarea on this registration page.

Oh, okay. I didn't look too closely at the html as I assumed it was the source php. HTML and Code are easier to read if you insert them into your postings as either html or code.

Take a look at signup.php and see if that is what you need. Please start a new thread for this if you have any more questions, as this has nothing to do with the OP.

Great post. Gives me what I have been looking for.

I just imported a site I will be working on. I'm having the same problem the magician had: nothing but black and a few white boxes on my preview screen, but code is present in code view and when I preview the page in a browser I can see the page as it looked (and looks) on the Web.
Any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

This is thread is sooo old that magician would be a 7th level wizard now

I suggest you create a new post

If learning PHP will solve my problem and not take two weeks to learn, yes. And I think he would probably only be at the fourth level, because he's spending so much time trying to get his Web page to preview properly.

1. That is my signature. Its not part of the post

2. learning PHP to a compitent standard takes a little longer than 2 weeks

Had the same problem, but solution was simpler: Just had to drag the frame back up from the bottom of the page!
Was very annoying, because I have been working most of the day trying to go through Dreamweaver CIB lessons, and didn't realise what the problem was. That's getting old for you.
