Do you have a test url we can look at? Without seeing the code it's hard to say. You may be using root relative links which DW understands when a site is defined, but browsers won't know where the correct root folder is, so they won't display things correctly.

Some of your paths are root-relative (they start with "/"), so browsers won't know what to do when you look at a page on you computer. Upload to a testing server to check with browsers.

katecher
07-27-2008, 05:31 PM
ok, i tried to upload to server and it did not work.
now i set up new site and all images i used before none of them working now at all. maybe something wrong with my photoshop???????

Cary

Okay, since it's on a server, can you give us a url to look at?

katecher

i just found out that my computer had kind of virus, i think dsnl-something like that. and i fixed the poblem.
now i have another problem, if i place an image, i can see it in preveiw, but if i sliced in photoshop and inserted kind of that way, it didn't work again.

All I can suggest is that you make sure your image folders are in the correct locations, because the code looks fine.

Hi Katecher,

I received your message. Please put this online somewhere so we can see it. Put all the necessary image files and such up as well. Without a live page to look at, it's simply impossible to tell what's wrong and why.

I've quoted your message below because others may be more helpful as I've never used Photoshop.

Hello,
I have a question about image folders.
I am confused about all my folders, images and html not connect to each other. i did not use slices before. somehow when i save as web all my slices, it saves as html and slices.
how can I make my index page connect to the rest of my pages.
I sliced my image in photoshop, so now i have
image folder and inside of the image folder my index.html and all slices. and I can preveiw, but when i link them to another page, on preview it doesn't work.
what should I do??
so far my files look like that:
images-index-folder
-images
-index.html

and so on

can you help me???

It is bad practice in my opinion to have your html files in with your images folder. Define your site in DW and define the root folder to hold your pages and then, inside that, have an images folder. Don't store index.html and your images all in your images folder. Hope this makes sense. :)

Also try not to use image ready for photoshop slicing. You'll end up with a table based design which will be 'image heavy'. Slice what you need manually in Photoshop and then rebuild your page, from scratch, in DW. It may take a bit longer but you'll learn more

katecher

yes, I knew it was a problem.

so what you are saying that i will save every slice and re-name it and then place it in DW----I can do this.

how can i keep them in place?should I create a table?????

photoshop allows you to export slices using DIV's

It provides all the CSS to construct the layout as it looks in photoshop

i am sorry and how can i do it????

i think its export for the web

then you have a choice of tables or divs

Still no substitute for learning CSS properly. You will benefit in the long run. Start your reading here...

I see where you come from, but you'll find that many here believes that unless you're hands on and understand the code you use, then you shouldn't be doing any web stuff...

I actually started my learning coding today. so far i found really good website for tutoring....

i just finished lesson first, but it reminded me html coding, what is the diffrence?????????
also, I don't really understand:

It was a joke :(

Come to Bristol sometime. It's quieter than London but a lot, lot nicer :)

I try to help where I can. I am still learning a lot myself and there's much more experienced developers on here than me. People on here were kind enough to help me when I started so I'd like to pass what I have learned on to others who are just starting as well.

I hate people who come on forums, ask a question and then don't come back to help others. It's very rude :x

I agree, i wish i can help too, but at this point i can not.... maybe later..
I took my basic html class 3 years ago and do not remember much(i was first in class, because i was studying during my work), but anyway
As today I did create first page using css(tutorial), but my question is,
why it is important to know css using dreamweaver, coding is already there???

I had very little time in London last year and I only had time go around the city. I am originally from Russia. When I was in London and tried to find any unexpensive hotel to stay overnight, a lot of people help me.. and it was such a relief because everybody spoke eanglish, not like when I stuck in Barcelona in the middle of night with broken car and knowbody spoke english. it took me 2 hours to communicate........

I could read and answer your question two ways. 1. It's important to build sites with CSS and Div Tags because it is the way it is done. Tables and frames are dead(ish). 2. You need to understand code to get the best out of dreamweaver. People who only design in 'design view' tend to have a lot more problems than those who use 'design' and 'code views'.

absolutely. DW attracts most (a lot) of us because it is an easy way to start as a wyswyg editor, but by degrees we all grow out of it. It still has great features and saves a lot of work instead of writing html code.

small note anyone not wanting or able to shell out for DW, have a look at Selida, a free wyswyg editor

if you ar egetting messages that files ,html or images cannot be found then i would say almost certainly the files are 1 not in the server or the paths are not correct, check the folderand file names in your linksnames are correct
