I assume this is HTML and not Flash ?

The 2 ways I would do it;
1: Make the site approx 770 wide then it can be viewed in all resolutions.
2: Have a section that can expand and contract without leaving empty space and set the parameters of the main content box as a percentage in css.
See tutorial on 'Wrapper' HERE (http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/css-center-content.php)

There are loads of solutions to this tho... I'm sure there are better ways to follow....

I guess you could have JS detect the browser size upon loading the page, and load a CSS file based on this info.

use percentage instead of pixels for sizing your layout.
