View Full Version : DW 8 will no longer launch

I've been using my DW8 install for two years and it's always been problem free. This morning however, it will no longer start. Searching this forum
for possible solutions I found only 1 from Quirky1992 (May 2007) that describes my symptoms precisely, but after a brief back and forth with another user the seemed to be no solution that worked for him. Here
it is...

When clicking the DW8 desktop icon, DW8 begins to launch and go through it' startup processes, but when it gets to the "Intializing Extenison Date", it hangs, waits about two minutes the yields a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information"

I've tried...

Complete install and re-install twice, making sure program files/dw dirs have been removed.

System restore

Used a different install disk on the second installation

Analyzed and cleaned Win Registry with two different applications

Checked hard drive condition. Computer analysis itself indicates
no detectable issues with disk, memory, internet connection

Ran thorough anti-virus program; none found

The problem would appear to be in a program DW8 uses (perhaps the
C++ Lib itself) or maybe some other but how can I determine which.
I don't want to go uninstalling and reinstalling core components on
my computer as I might break something else. Every other program works
fine.

I can move all of my work to another machine to get by but I somehow need to get this one up again.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dan

Sounds like you tried everything (and then some). Yes Adobe support is definitely in order.

After visiting the Adobe Support site for a half hour or so I've
determined that for 40 bucks they will attempt to help me with my
problem. It does not say though if it is phone or just e-mail
support. I'll pay the 40 for phone support but not for an
e-mail back and forth which may take a week or more of
exchanges. Anyone know if it is phone, or E-Mail support?
I never had to use it before.

have you installed the latest updater (patch) from adobe?

have you tried the adobe forums? and ask there, though they may say that you should just contact support ;)

Yes I did the patch 8.0.2 for DW8 a couple of days
ago; no help. It's seems to be something outside the
normal DW install. I restored all files and subs that are
DW8 related that were backed up when it still worked
with full overwrite and that did not even help.

Thanks,

Dan
