Hey,

I've followed the instructions in the DW help when making a hotspot over an image and my tool isn't
working. I select the image, then i select the rectangle tool, name the image and the map and then try to drag but it just shows a white arrow
with a box underneath it and then when i let go, nothing happens. I also tried the polygon hotspot tool but it won't apply a point either. My image is totally selected...what am I doing wrong?

If it helps to view my source code, here is the page:
http://www.constanceanderson.com/mem.html

See the 3 underlined links on the memberexperiencemeasurementdisplay image? I want to hotspot those 3 links...

why are you making your whole site in images? and not an alt attribute in sight... :(

your site is blind to screen readers and for search engine indexing

what's an alt attribute?

it's what you use for people (and google bots) as an ALTernative to images, so those using screen readers for example can access your site. with images disabled your site is a complete blank!

like <img src="porsche.jpg" alt="porsche 911" ... >

I have to agree about the use of images. There is no data on that page, at least make the center content text. Design is sweet, but it doesn't make up for the fact that it's an inaccessible page.

chal7ds,

In case you have not checked, this is what you site looks like to everyone with images switched off.

You need to do some research on building websites. You really should not be using images for your content.

As for your Hotspot question..... you wont need it if you design you site with some text.

There is plenty of help and advice available on this Forum. Take some time to search for some info and then ask your questions.

Good luck.

ok, great info. Thanks, I will look into using less images.

However, in the meantime..this hotspot tool is really annoying me. Does anybody have this trouble I'm having:

half the time i try to use the tool to drag a hotspot, it doesn't work! it does what i stated above.

the other half of the time it works.

uggh, it's really frustrating to keep trying and not have it work when i try to drag, and have to do it over and over again until it works. Does anyone have an explanation for this or experienced this and know how to make it work 100% everytime? I just don't understand why it's not working every time..

have you checked the help files for hotspot to see if there's anything you might not be doing right?

okay, check this out. i found a work-around on this. apparently, if i quit dreamweaver after i name the image and the map and then reopen the program and then try to drag a hotspot, it works everytime.

i guess there's a bug in my program that won't allow me to drag right after i start the titling process, but if i quit and re-open it works. weeeiirrd.

i wonder if anyone else has this bug?!?

ok, i figured this out once and for all. it's totally a simple stupid thing like i knew it would be once i found out what it is.

apparently, if you have your view>visual aids>hide all checked, it won't let you drag a hotspot (or i guess you just can't see it or something) however, if you drag with the hide all turned off, then you can 'see' your hotspot being dragged.

mine was turned off because when i work in design mode i like having those tabs out of my way. go figure it took me that long to figure out its connection to the hotspot thing. blah.

Glad you figured it out, and thanks for posting the solution!
