View Full Version : Dreamweaver Linking to cell data in excel

Please forgive me if this is not the right place for this question. I have looked through the web but have not found anything. I have a web page I am working on and want to present data in a tabular format, but a format that I have created not to be confused with importing tabular data via tab delimited text file. I want to actually link to an excel spreadsheet/workbook to a particular cell and have it display in the tables I have created. Is this possible without to much programming? Thanks:confused:

Thanks for the reply David, but I just want to link an excel cell to my web page tables. The reason for this is we have certain matrix spreadsheets created by everyone and their dog and my boss just wants one location with all this data. So I have created a web page that has tables labeled accordingly and I want to link to certain cells within an excel spreadsheet/workbook. I have scripted a job in unix to grab these spreadsheets and rename them to a common name so that the data will be as up to date as possible. I know this is not the most ideal way but at the time I must crawl before I walk. Again I appreciate your post.

Not sure if this will help much, but if you export XML data from Excel you can then import that into a web page. From what I understand, instead of editing the web page whenever the data is updated, you just create an updated version of the XML file, and its data is inserted into the page dynamically whenever the page is accessed by a browser.

Thanks Cary, I will look into this.

David, I am just trying to present data to users via a web page but i do not want to import the whole excel workbook rather just link some tables to specific cells in the workbook. I have read quite a bit about this and it is next to impossible without some coding with VB and ASP. Thanks for the replies though. Peace!
