Using DW8 on my PC. Have Firefox and IE8 as browsers.

using show/hide in behaviors to link thumbnails to a larger image. However, 3 thumbs don't link, no matter what I do. Here is the code. Can you help?http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif

wow that's some messy source code - where's the doctype and the rest of a standard html doc? head? body? ...

DW puts all of those things in as standard so where did they go??

also are you *sure* you have IE8?! :)

it should be compulsory to hand code for the first 3 months before touching dreamweaver

oops, BIG typo - IE7, not 8.

I thought the beauty of DW was to be able to just use the design view.
Can the problem of the 3 thumbs be solved in design?

Will review the new page info and try to add the missing inormation, if I can. Maybe I need to redo the page.

No, you somehow got into code view and changed stuff. This is where it is really helpful to know what's going on.
The error is on this line:
<img width="66" height="100" onclick="</tr;MM_showHideLayers('twn-w-txt','','hide','success','','hide','heart-dis-photo','','hide','deadly-photo','','hide','consigned','','hide','mom-photo','','hide','tin-pan','','hide','parenting','','show','jaws','','hi de','darknessLayer10','','hide','amer-friedr2amerfried','','hide','galv','','hide','make-love','','hide','i-ching','','hide','think-man','','hide','ten-speed','','hide','seniors','','hide')" alt="parent-thumb" src="ss_images/Parenting-thumb.jpg"/>
The '</tr;' part does not belong in there.
You will get problems like this on a regular basis from time to time. Learning the technology is key to use DW efficiently imho.

Other errors are images called from the C:// drive. this will not work.

DOMEDIA, Thanx for your input.
You have keen eyes. I inserted the 3 images with the 3 correct srcs and 2 are working. However, the Parenting enlarged photo still is not. I also removed the </tr> and it's off the thumb code in my page. The code in the view code on the internet, however, seems different than my code, as I see it. I can't locate an error. If you can see anything that I could do to rectify this, I'd appreciate knowing.

GENERAL, The entire problem started because I don't know how to edit the show-hide behavior, retyping info that was already there. Can anyone share this information?

DAVE, I know my code is sloppy (see above). I don't know where the missing DW code went. Tried to insert it or save the entire page onto a new page, but couldn't. The site is working now, with the page as is, so don't want to mess with it. Will be more aware next time.

that is the best advice i can give when asked whats the best way to become a developer. Just three words. It gives you so much power! (not xmen powers just run of the mill power of understanding)

The page is severely broken.
no HTML tag no BODY tag etc.. this does not even qualify as a HTML document sorry :-(

As a general rule, i would say that if you do not have an idea of HTML you should never go into code view. DW will not make a document without the basic structure (which you are missing), so you must have gone in and removed the basic structure tags of the site. Sorry I can't be of more help, but I can't tell you how to add all the missing structure of the page if you don't know HTML. Maybe start the page over?

This is very strange - I don't know how the entire 4 page site is working, but it is, except for that one image. I don't know how the structure on that page got deleted - I wasn't even working at the top of the code view page.

This is the first site I've attempted to make from scratch. I have learned a lot about DW since I joined the Forum in August - with the good help of Janine Warner, the Forum and a bit of intuitiveness. I work and study everyday and must now locate a tutorial for HTML. I see how important it is to know the code, and tho I've gone in on other pages with no problems, I guess this time I didn't. Believe it or not, I can read the code, and understand it somewhat, but I certainly must know more.

With great appreciation for your wisdom which I hope to carry with me on to my next site,

If it's only that page, one option is to just delete it and make another one.

Agreed. What is so weird to me is that it is up, anyway! How can that be!??!!

Think I'll be busy for a while looking at the tutorials that Dave sent, and reviewing whatever I code I do know. You guys are great!

to DavidJ,

Thank-you for your opinion. I know you mean well. However, no need to display your frustration so loudly. I heard you the first time. I know my shortcomings and I know I have lot to learn. Next time you might try directing a person to a place to find the help he/she needs instead of yelling, or poking fun.

Cut me some slack. Gimme a break. Cool it. Chill.

You might consider Ativan. he-he

didnt mean anything by it

just stressing the point

i would never poke fun at someone who is wanting to learn

there is nothing but admiration for you

i am chillaxed.....
