View Full Version : centering my website for other monitors

12-11-2007, 03:57 AM
I have designed my site using Layers.

Is there a way I can make my website center on various size monitors.

What steps would I have to take to accomplish my goal?

Thanks for the help.

ok the link provided on the tutorial to center my content. i have a newbie question. i am making my own website and im started with a blank html. i haven't started yet but i want to set it up so its centered. now this tutorial is a bit confusing for me because i am a newbie to dw. on this part...

<div class="wrapper"> all page content goes here </div>
were it says all page content goes here. should i put <div class="wrapper"> as the first thing in my code and then all my codes and the last thing would be </div>? for example....

<div class="wrapper">
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<title>Untitled Document</title>
<style type="text/css">
body {
background-color: #000000;
background-repeat: repeat;
margin-left: 0px;
margin-top: 0px;
margin-right: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px;
a:link {
color: #FF0000;
font-weight: bold;
a:visited {
color: #CCCCCC;
.style1 {color: #FFFFFF}
body,td,th {
color: #FFFFFF;
<span class="style1">This is a <a href="www.soccer.com" target="_self">link</a></span> <span class="style1">Soccer.com.</span>

also where does this go? on another line in the code view?

div.wrapper {
margin-left : 10%;
margin-right : 10%;

sorry to bring this up from a dead post but i keep searching and getting to this tutorial and not understanding it... thank you

I don't mind people starting out. Those that have a keen interest and the will to learn because we were all there once. (in 94 some one showed me HTML and i nearly laid cable!)

what i find annoying is people who fall into the ... "Ive been learning to drive for 5 years but i will pass one day" ...catagory. These guys have been involved in web Dev for a number of years. They ask for a code review because of a mysterious bug and post their work and what does it turn out to be..?? A complex AJAX error? NO its...

Now we all have missed a closing bracket or an attribute value in our endeavours but some guys just keep getting it wrong. Its as if they are void of logic

The other character is the guy that wants to build an amazon clone with all the bells and whistles associated with it so they ask for an extension then have the nerve to ask someone to hack it to make it do something they want.

All i ask is for some level of information uptake. Anybody can ask me the most simplest question without any fear of feeling stupid because i am here to help. If that person was to post time and time again but still missing or including the same error then i would have to reach for a metaphorical gun and blow their metaphorical head off
