I've only been using dreamweaver for 1 week hopefully someone can help.
I've got my website ready however when i've checked the site the flash buttons i've put into the page with links don't work properly. When I say they don't work you have to click it twice for the link to open the page any ideas please?

If I remember right, the DW update took care of this.
Update your DW and open the page, it should give you a dialog box about updating the flash.

i could be wrong but i think what cazzy is talking about is the adobe 'click to focus' functionality for flash.

IE does this if you emdeb the flash with the object tag. So that if a user wants to use the flash they first must click on it to bring it to the focus of the browser, then it is active to to use.

a way around this is using the swfObject.js script

let me kno if you would like a demo or go here

Exactly Chris, but didn't the last DW update fix this? I was under that impression.

yes it did 8.02 patch

also cs3 is fine you dont need to go to the trouble of using swfobject.

Can't this be made sticky it gets asked all the time.

My response from the other day

This is an issue with Internet Explorer. The message says click to activate using this control.

If you embed your swf files using CS3 then this is not a problem, if you have dreamweaver 8 then update to 8.02 with the patch from adobe this will also sort this out if you re-embed your swf files.

If you have an older version of dreamweaver then you need to embed your swf files using swfobject, this will stop this problem.

Swfobject can be downloaded here

Its just a script that you use to embed the swf file and will stop the click to activate and it comes with good instructions.

If you still get the hand sybol then this is because flash thinks you want the items to be clickable, in this case you need to add this to your actions

mc.buttonMode=false (for action script 3 flash cs3)
or

mc.useHandCursor = false; (flash 8 or lower) action script 2

where mc is the instance name of your movie clip or button

cheers

Even if it was made sticky it would still get asked. This is one of those beginner questions that always seems to come back.
