View Full Version : Creating forums and Threads

I am getting to grips with PHP nicely. There are a few things which i confuse me even from my access days which are left and right joins. (I am self tought so please forgive me).

I have created a forum for my own site as really an example of what i can do other than Flash and HTML programming and i used a very good tutorial. I know what to advance the forum and i need some advise.

The forum has a basic hierachy of topics/posts/Articles. Which all have left joins on the MySQL side. If i want to add a fourthly layer to the hierachy of adding threads would i simply add in a left join to a new table on my index page and then have a second post page for thread. (http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk/index.php (http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk/index.php))

I hope this make sense. Any advise would be appreciated.... I can probably crack this myself but i would prefer to get a foot in the right direction to save me hours.

Hello DJ

Yes it using left joins will be the right way forward?

i use left joins all the time

the reason is a left or right join allows for the use of a WHERE clause.
