When a file created in dreamweaver is open with other text editors such as notepad. It seems that there is extra indent in a file.

For example, a line created in a dreamweaver
[/tab]one tabbed indent
becomes
[/tab][/tab]one tabbed indent
in notepad.

Is there a setting in dreamweaver to change this behavior?

You're describing a behvior in Notepad, not in DW.
It's notepad that chooses to display a tab in that size.
A tab is a tab, different editors can choose to display it differently.

Thank you for a reply.
After reading your post and doing some testing, I realized that number of characters of a tab in most text editors are set to 8 characters and that it was dreamweaver overriding the number of characters in a tab.

Try this: open notepad and just hit tab, you'll see that the tab space is a function of the editor in use, not from which editor the tab was originally added.
The tab size is preset in the editor in use, 'tab size' cannot be transferred.
So if you add a tab in DW's code view, it will have no bearing on how the tab in that document will appear in other documents.

Actually a 'tab' is just a single character in ASCII and is invisible, it just tells the editor to go to it's next tab stop, wherever the current editor thinks that is.
