Hey guys i have been searching for days on this and can't find anything.
I am trying to create sample websites using php but in order to do that I need a testing server, So i installed Mysql 5.0 on my laptop in the C/program files/ directory and created a sample database and table. For some reason I cannot connect to it using the Mysql connection manager in dreamweaver using the following information
connection name = test
server = localhost
username = root
password = my password
then i hit the select database button and it gives me the following errors.

http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/310/error1kj9.jpg (http://img390.imageshack.us/my.php?image=error1kj9.jpg)
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6836/error2kt2.jpg (http://img444.imageshack.us/my.php?image=error2kt2.jpg)

I have tried the site setup wizzard several different ways on account fo what the errors are saying but i cant seem to get it to work.
Do i need php running on my laptop as well?
any help would be appreciated.

do you have a web server installed
I dont believe that I do, however i do have a website that I created that resides on godaddy with linux, can I test it this way by setting up a new directory? will mysql run on godaddys server or what do I need, Basically what would be the easiest way to acomplish this?

if godaddy supports php then this will be fine

to test if it does do this...

create a blank page with NO html (completly empty of any code)

add this...

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

save as info.php and then upload this to your godaddy space.

now navigate to the page through your browser...

what do you see??

Hello, It gives me this.

So with that im assuming I can run PHP on the server, But how do I connect mysql to the server and start a database there for my sample pages?

you will have a control panel with which to administer your space

you may need to purchase a mysql database from them if you dont have one setup

if you just want to use your laptop to try php out and start learning then just follow the tuts about installing the required software like a server
