I have a copy of DW 4 and I wanted to play around with web page development. Will any of the skills I develop be transferable to current web practices if I decide to upgrade later. Obviously this is old software but have the fundamentals changed or just been greatly added to?

your going back a few years with DW4

you will still be able to design websites and they should work fine although DW4 does not write XHTML

It should work fine for any personal or hobby use. If you plan to use it professionally, you should update to a new version.

Thanks. Thats the sort of information I'm looking for. I think I can use what I have to get started and upgrade if I decide to do something substantive for work.

the trick here is not to rely on any of the wizards that dreamweaver use with that version as they have probably been superseded and to use this oportunity to develop your hand coding skills.
