first create the directory in the My Documents

then add an alias.

see below

ok

firstly why do you want to set an alias?

is it because you have set the wrong directory or default directory when you installed WAMP

Hey,

for the same reason as you really, its just a pain finding the www directory all the time.

gotchya

ok

1.) create 2 directories in My Documents. Call one local and the other remote

we will set the remote as the alias but dreamweaver will use both

2.) now open up the alias dialogue from WAMP icon in system tray and click Add an Alias

3.) now add the name of the remote directory which we called remote

[hit enter]

the next step is to add the path to the alias which is in the My Documents folder

4.) so type this in but remember that the path to My Documents is through C:/

my path is...
C:/Documents and Settings/Davidj/My Documents/remote

also remember to use forward slashes in your path

if there is any problem then the alias creation will fail but give this ago

you wont be able to create the alias if they didnt exist in My Documents

Hey,

before i create the alias shown in the 6th post, i create the local root and web root in the www direcotory within wamp.

with all the sub directorys.

you need to create them where you want them

In your case you want them in My Document dir

The process dosnt create them for you

Hey,

after looking at the tutorials again, i noticed that you didnt have any folders called remote or local in my documents, like you told me to in post 6, why is that?

i had already set them up when installing WAMP5 and i pointed the default dir to the dir in MY Documents

all you have to do to set up an alias is what i mentioned above

you have to create these directories first then setup your alias to point to the directories.

i think your getting confused about how this all works...
/////////////////////////

ok

php will process any .php file in a defined directory and when you install WAMP the default is in its own WWW dir

you mentioned that you are tired of navigating to this dir so you have two choices

1.) create a favorate which points to this dir
2.) create an alias

if your wanting to use 2. then first create the dir in the My Documents folder then create your alias. From that point on any documents you create and place in that new dir will be processed by PHP because by creating an alias you have told PHP to look in that new directory.

do you understand????

Hey,

i think it will be simpler to reinstall the WAMP and point it to my documents by default like you.

Thanks for the help.

P.S are there more PHP vide tutorials in the making?
