Might want to look into a 301 redirect from apache instead.
Good for searchengines and guaranteed to work :)

this is a code problem and not a safari problem. I have mac and pc, the meta refresh works fine if the code is correct. Chances are it's your doc type.

Use this and it will work in safari.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://www.thewebsiteforredirecthere.com">
<title>untitled document.</title>
</head>

<body>
</body>
</html>

this will wotk with safari, ie, ff and all

Simply don't use a 0 meta refresh. You're exposing yourself to search engine penalties.
