Myself and some friends have a website, we would like to restrict access to certain pages / folders on the site. Can you please direct me to a tutorial where I can find out how this is done or altenatively are there some extensions in dreamweaver which I can use. I also want to make sure this prevents access from web indexing services such as google.

I am fairly new to web design so something as straight forward as possible would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

If you run on an apache server, you can use a .htaccess file for protecting directories:
http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml

search enginess will not be able to into password protected directories.

fasthosts got plenty of servers running apache:
http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/dedicatedservers/ds-200_linux/

If you content your host they would be able to give you specific help on how to password protect directories in your server environment. :)

Obviously you can use a form with a password to restrict access. Normally this is done with "login" or "handshake" protocols, but of course you could do it with just one userid and password for everyone. I am sure a web search would provide plenty of information on how to do that.
