I am brand new to Dreamweaver, but have developed a few sites using a small program before. Now I want to help a friend start a business where he uses a website to update contacts where his clients can log onto his site and search through his database. I can use DW8 and coldfusion or I have read of several other choices such as ASP, PHP, etc. Which direction should I choose? It sounds a bit intimidating, so easy is better.

Can I use Excel as the database? I have looked a bit further and went to the book store and looked at books on PHP and ColdFusion and they both seem fairly complicated. If I went the PHP route, would I need several programs to get started (myadmin, myedit, apache, and a few others)? If I went the CF route, everything I need is in the program, correct?
As you can tell, I am leaning toward the CF program, mostly because I can get the program and one of the tutorials on CD and it works with Dreamweaver (which I am learning).

No way to Excel, how about Access?

what CI was getting at is that excel is not a database

its like this. Try putting together a 5000 piece jigsaw using welding gloves.

its possible but would you try it?

you can utilise access but why would you want to when mysql is free.
