The hosting provider I'm looking at (Thinkhost) doesn't provide MySQL for the hosting plan I want (Net Launch).

What are MySQL Databases used for and why would I need one?

My site is for a very small business. Nothing fancy...just a clean basic site w/ no online ordering and perhaps just one form (email).

Thanks.

You should answer your own question

Like you said: MySQL is a database application

An application that holds data....

What kind of data? You should answer it! You are the best person to think about data that needs to be stored. Product Information? Customer Information? Inventory Data? Financial Data?

You decide

PHP is a programming language that allows you to interact with this data thats stored. You can add, update, delete and retrive data to via your browser from anywhere in the world
