#notice{ /* another IE fix: changed font-size */
clear: both;
margin: auto;
padding: 5px 7px;
color: inherit;
font: x-small arial,verdana,sans-serif;
background: #007700;}

#pageContainer > #notice{
clear: both;
margin: auto;
padding: 5px 7px;
color: #0066CC;
font: small arial,verdana,sans-serif;
background: #0066CC;}

.floatLeft{
float: left;}

.floatRight{
float: right;}
i thought changing the bold entry does it but it doesn't affect the color at all.[/quote]

thats because your <a> tags are overruling your css
there will be a way of doing this without using a class but im thick.
i would use a class to do this and assign the class to the <a> tag

.footer {
font-family: Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 10px;
color: #666666;
background-color: #ECF3FB;
}

<a href="bla bla bla.htm" class="footer">
