I have a web page with swfs basically in a html (dreamweaver) shell, when I preview in browser the swf shows up but when I open it in Safari or Explorer it just shows a white box. I have put the page live and it still does not work, I made sure the site was defined in dreamweaver, and I viewed the source and it says the swf is there, its just not showing anything..(well, it shows a white space...) I have done this before, and have not run into this problem. so I am not sure what to do.

any suggestions?

have you got the flash player installed for the browser you are viewing in?

yea I do, I made sure to check that, and I opened up some other pages I have done the same thing with, and they opened ok.

Are you using both embed & object when creating your html??

I am not sure, is that something I would have to do in dreamweaver? where would I check to see if it is embedded?

I usually just create a dreamweaver html and put the swf in that, should I export a swf and html from flash?

If you add your swf file with the dreamweaver insert option and have the swf file inside your site folder dw will add all the code for the movie.

dreamweavers insert code for a swf is a bit dodgey i think (well at least in mx anyways)
make sure your object code is similar to this:
<OBJECT class="flashItem" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" WIDTH="300" HEIGHT="250">
<PARAM NAME="movie" VALUE="common/movies/YOUR_SWF.swf">
<PARAM NAME="loop" VALUE="true">
<PARAM NAME="menu" VALUE="false">
<PARAM NAME="quality" VALUE="high">
<PARAM NAME="wmode" VALUE="transparent">
<EMBED src="common/movies/YOUR_SWF.swf" loop="true" menu="false" quality="high" wmode="transparent" WIDTH="300" HEIGHT="250" NAME="video2" TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash" PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer></EMBED>
</OBJECT>

might help....

chris, my code looks kinda similar but not quite the same. I have pasted the page code in here, to make sure I dont miss anything. If anything looks off PLEASE let me know. It doesnt look like I have the loop and autoplay but I have that checked off in dreamweaver, and the swf is only one frame anyway. Not sure if that matters. The embed and object is there though, I found that. Im not too good at the back side of this.

Thanks for the help.

I put my page online, and there is still one swf that the page is not reading, the others are working. If anyone has any ideas it is located at www.hilbourneguitars.com

the gallery header.

Thanks

in your objects tag you are referencing the .swf like this...

/images/header.swf

remove the first slash

images/header.swf
