View Full Version : Prefer .html to .htm?

I am taking a Dreamweaver 2004 MX class and our textbook uses .html rather than .htm for all HTML files. The instructor agrees. It seems that DW uses .htm as a default when saving, unless .html is specified.

Is it possible to set .html as the default?

Dreamweaver 4 let you do this through preferences.
In MX you need to edit one of the XML files:

1. Launch Dreamweaver.
2. Open MMDocumentTypes.xml located in one of these locations:
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\DreamweaverMX\Configuration\Docum entTypes
C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\DocumentTypes

Macintosh OS X
Hard Drive\Applications\Macromedia Dreamweaver MX\Configuration\DocumentTypes
Hard Drive\Applications\Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\DocumentTypes

Mac OS 9
Hard Drive\Applications(OS 9)\Macromedia Dreamweaver MX\Configuration\DocumentTypes

3. Look a line near the top that begins with:

documenttype id="HTML" internaltype="HTML" winfileextension="htm,html,shtml,shtm,..
documenttype id="HTML" internaltype="HTML" macfileextension="htm,html,shtml,shtm...

4. Change the order of the extensions listed after winfileextension or macfileextension to:

5. Save the file

6. Restart Dreamweaver.
