Hi everyone,

I am new to DW and this is my first post, so forgive me if I am not perfectly clear in giving all necessary info. I will try. Here is my problem:

I have started creating a site, using a basic template as the starting point. This is going to be a site showcasing Costa Rica...so there will be many, many photos. Anyway, I decided to use simple tables (with almost no border) to align the photos and descriptions. I know there is probably a better way to do this, but as a beginner, I don't know what it is.

I created the pages, with the tables, and loaded the photos. In certain instances, I used those photos as links to other pages. When I load these pages onto the net, some of the photos are not showing up: http://www.costaricaorbust.com/FortunaHote...tunaBudget.html ('http://www.costaricaorbust.com/FortunaHotels/FortunaBudget.html') (there is a 5 x 2 table on the page, and each row in the second column should have a picture visible...but only one photo is showing up).

When I open the page in dreamweaver, the photos are visible (both the local copy and the server copy - see attachment for screenshot). When I "Preview in browser", the photos are visible. However, when I view on the www, they are not visible. HOWEVER, on the www, when I mouseover where the pictures should be...the link still works!

I have checked that the source pictures have been loaded to the www successfully. I have deleted the pictures from the page and re-added them using the "browse" button. Nothing seems to be working.

This is very confusing for me. I'm sorry for all the detail, but has anyone else had this issue? Can anyone suggest a solution?
Thanks!!
Colin

You do know that when you do ../Images you are going up one directory?
Also if I do a costaricaorbust.com/images/ there is no image directoru which is what they is trying to find with the ../

also is this correct for you second image ostaricaorbust.com/Images/FortunaImages/Oriuma/CIMG4999.JPG

Also check it is spelt correctly.. caps and all.

Thanks for the reply! Let me answer your questions one by one:

"You do know that when you do ../Images you are going up one directory?"
Response: I did not know what the ../ meant, but I assumed it was just a way to show that there was more to the path than what was shown.
_______
"Also if I do a costaricaorbust.com/images/ there is no image directoru which is what they is trying to find with the ../"
Response: In order to load the site to my host, I have to load into a folder called "www". I've attached a screenshot that shows there is an "image" directory within this "www" directory.

According to the "Scr" field in dreamweaver properties area...the path for the picture that is showing up correctly is: ../Images/FortunaImages/Cangreja/Cang_300.JPG
-the path for the picture that is not showing up correctly is: ../Images/FortunaImages/Oriuma/CIMG4992.JPG
_______
"also is this correct for you second image costaricaorbust.com/Images/FortunaImages/Oriuma/CIMG4999.JPG
"
Response: Correct
_______
"Also check it is spelt correctly.. caps and all."
Response: The spelling is correct I believe. I think the path is correct because I used the "browse" feature to find the images (i.e. I didn't type any of the path to the picture...I just followed the path by clicking to find it, so the capitalization and spelling came from what is in the directories)

Please let me know if there is any other info, or any other screenshots I can provide.

Thanks again,
Colin

Hi tbone,
What i see the reason your images are not showing up is because there is no access to the pics in that particular folder.
To Explain See:

on your page:the picture Cang_300.JPG is visible because your page has access to
folder cangreja where the picture is located.
you can see it
http://www.costaricaorbust.com/Images/Fort...ja/Cang_300.JPG ('http://www.costaricaorbust.com/Images/FortunaImages/Cangreja/Cang_300.JPG')

While the other pics in Oriuma folder are not visible because they dont have access to it.
you can see at
http://www.costaricaorbust.com/Images/Fort...ma/CIMG4999.JPG ('http://www.costaricaorbust.com/Images/FortunaImages/Oriuma/CIMG4999.JPG')

What a think is to simply give permision on the Oriuma folder as 777 or read.
This will solve the problem.
Your paths are all correct!Just give the access to that folder.

Thanks ramandeep,

It is probably a simple solution...but I can't figure out how to adjust the permissions in dreamweaver. I've searched the DW help and the net in general...and I just can't find it. Within my personal hard drive, the folder is already set to "read and write", but I am sure that is not the one that matters.

Thanks for any tips on how to adjust the folder permissions within DW!

All you need is folder acces is 644 and that should be enough (read).
You don't check the perms with dw you do it on your site with an ftp client.
Just right click on the folder and select either permissions or chmod and enter 644, that is all you need.

Yes you need to give the permissions through FTP as CI said.
Which FTP program you are using?
If you want a free web based FTP to make it easier for you
http://www.web2ftp.com ('http://www.web2ftp.com')

Use this!

I can see 1 more pic on your page starting showing.Same way you can give permissions to folders containing pictures!

Thanks everyone! By contacting my host (site5), I was able to change the the permissions on the folders and now they are good to go! Awesome. Now I just have to figure out why it was created with the wrong permissions in the first place.

Thanks again!

I still recon that your FTP client uploaded them in ascii mode instead of binay. But anyhoo all fixed now and that is great!
