I have an audio clip that I want to add to my the website of my church. I use DreamweaverMX. What is the best format to use to accomplish this? Convert the audio clip to an MP3 and then use Fireworks or etc..?

Hey there Carter,
i asked pretty much the same Q a while ago.
Previous forum audio topic ('http://www.dreamweaverclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1392')

so have a look at that for some ideas. What you will have to think about mainly is the size of the song/file. you dont' want users waiting for your homepage to load because a sound file is slowing it all up.

Options are:
* Reduce the file by cutting and looping
* Reduce the file by using a some sort of mp3 convertor.
eg: when u rip audio from cd's to mp3 using a burner, the usual bitrate is 128kbps for audio. Convertors can be found (eg:on www.download.com) and used to convert the bitrate (hard to notice difference is not loud volume) to a lower quality 64kbps or 24 kbps, and hence reducing the file dramatically.

sorry carter i forgot to say that it is best to make the audio file in Flash, from what i've been told.

Yes, if you make your audio file into a streaming flash file then it will not make viewers wait to view your site while an audio file loads.
Not only that, if a person is using FF and have QT installed it will open another browser and stream with your audio file with QT..

The pastor asked that I add sermons and message audio file(s) to our church website so the loop option will not work here. The pastor wants web visitors and members of our church to hear what he has to say.

I think the Flash stream option will work best. Unfortunately, I do not have Flash but I will download an eval copy and try this in a few minutes.

Thanks everyone for the feed back.

You are welcome. If you have problems streaming them just pop back and start a thread and I am sure that someone can help you out, or I can just stream them for you. Only takes a sec or 2.
