you need to define a background in CSS and assign the bg class to the <table> tag

if you look at the actual page code then im sure there's more then one table.

Ive tried things like you suggested but with no joy.

any idea where it would go code wise?

<td bgcolor="#0066CC" td class="bg"><table width="760" height="300" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" td class="bg" id="information">
<tr>
<td valign="top"> <table width="240" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" id="left_column">
<tr>
<td class="head">What is "believe in" ?
<hr align="left" width="180" /> <br>
<span class="text"> </span></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td valign="top" class="text"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="head"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="text"></td>
</tr>
</table></td>
<td width="1" valign="top"><div align="center"><img src="images/divider_2.gif" width="3" height="301" /></div></td>
<td valign="top" bgcolor="0066CC" class="divide"> <table width="240" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" id="centre_column">
<tr>
<td class="head"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td class="text"> <p>What ever you believe in, what ever music is the sound track to you life, whatever moves your body, soul and your mind, you can believe in us, as we believe in you. <br />
<br />
Believe in events is dedicated and passionate about bringing you the most unforgettable events.</p>
<p>Distinguishing itself from the Hoi polloi of dance events, you really do have to see it to believe it <br />
</p>
<p><br />
</p></td>
</tr>
</table></td>
<td width="1" valign="top" class="divide"><div align="center"><img src="images/divider_2.gif" width="3" height="301" /></div></td>
<td valign="top" bgcolor="0066CC"> <table width="240" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" background="images/bg_trans.gif" id="right_column">
<tr>
<td class="head"></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td background="images/bg_trans.gif" class="text"><p>A list of up and coming events will be here shortly. </p>
<p>Join our forum <a href="http://www.believe-in.com/forum/" target="_blank">here >></a> for the quickest way to recieve info</p>
<p></p> </td>
</tr>
</table></td>
</tr>
</table>

from what i can see the blue bg is being defined by...

class="text"
class="head"

and that a bg color is being set in those classes

please confirm this.

These classes are being called in your <td>'s

if this is the case then your going to have to remove the classes from your <td>'s as those will over rule any class you set on the <table> tag

or

remove any background color that is being defined in your text class and head class from your CSS (just leave the font formating in those classes)

create a new class which sets a background and call that in your <table> tag

done it! great one, thanks loads for your replys

Just one thing though, now in dreamweaver where the bg doesnt go underneath the table, it still shows white even though ive made the class have the bg image aswell as the bg colour. when i view it in a browser its fine, but in dreamweaver interface it looks like this
