hi everyone!

I've been immersed in trying to design my (our) website.

I'm part of a, I'll call it a musical collaboration. Not a band, really! so we thought we'd get a website running, seems the best idea to be able to share our music.

Anyway(!)...

It's waaaay more difficult than people might realise. Im the producer/music director in the 'group', so i thought i could pick it up with a bit of work. Boy, i was shot down quickly! Big respect to you guys.

Our first effort was done with a simple HTML editor. that really sucked, so i made the leap and got DW.

the first reason i'm actually on these help forums Is about viewable fonts. I did a search and read the tutorials on it. Seems like I can't win with most of the fonts i was wanting to use.
For info text im happy with default, tnr, courier, etc. But my menus look pretty cr@ppy. I don't want to use frames.
I tried to use little jpegs in the font i wanted, but the background clashes. What i mean is that when i export the jpeg from photoshop it's got a white box round it. thats useless for how my page looks. I set the opaque value at 100% too.

Sorry if typed lots here, i thought I'd say hi since it looks like im gonna be on here a few times ;)

thanks loads guys!

have you tried embedding fonts

you will be able to use any font you want

i know i know (going to get flamed here!! to some its Blasphemy )

Its an IE thang but i believe netscape have implimented support in the latest release.

you will need a tool to do this

WEFT (a tool for font embedding) ('http://www.microsoft.com/typography/web/embedding/weft3/weft01.htm')

you may also have to run through some tutorials as i have never used embedded fonts before

Nice site by the way max. a great first attempt !

aaaw shucks, thanks!

Im at work just now, but I'll have a look at the embeded fonts tutorial a lil later.

why would you get flamed? why so bad?

I use mozilla at work here, so i would'nt be able to see the fonts, right?

thanks,

m

im not sure of the impact it will have across different browsers

you could do a few tests across each and then do a browser detect.

it may work across the board (feel free to jump in anybody)

oh yeah! I almost forgot:

Do you know why I can change the colour of some of the links, but not others?

eg, the link i have on each page allowing you to return home I allocated as grey, but others stay blue no matter what i try. Shouldn't it be as simple as changing the colour code in the properties box?

Be sure to read gmcrones article series from the homepage as well, he does get into the different embedding technologies.
