I have built a site with DWMX that includes a simple form to allow visitors to mail back a message. My DW book tells me that I need to download a Form Handler and edit the script to insert the URL of the form handler and add in the email address for the message to go to. My host only supports PHP for this function. I have downloaded a PHP forms handler from hotscripts.com but it is way beyond me (I am a real novice). When I open one of the many PHP files included in the zip it is a 1800 line list of actions and corresponding code with no guidence for how to pice it all together.

Can anyone help me with a simpler (idiot proof) way of getting my form to work?

Just go to insert form in DWand fill in the boxes, or go to the link here:

Mike - Thanks, your form handler is the closest I have got to getting this to work. I have copied the PHP file into the website directory and have got the form to send an email to the target address. Unfortunately none of the data written in the form is being transferred. I am getting a blank email. (Strangely enough I am also getting the recipient address quoted twice on the email and the bcc specified isn't working - but these are minor issues).

Any ideas?

Have you checked out his online help pages?

Don't change anything beyond line 53 in the code.

Past 53 lines????

This mailer sounds like code bloat to me!

CAUTION: Its not a cut and paste script, you WILL learn how to code your own PHP mailer with validations

Ranjan - this is a great link! You are absolutely right it is better for me to learn the code than cut & paste. I guess I thought it would be a much longer process but just working through the first few Lessons really improved my understanding (well it would because I was actually reading the code and thinking about what it was doing).

By the time I got to Lesson 4 - Generic scripts, I was already asking myself why I was defining a Form in this script when I had already done that in DW. Lesson 4 then makes all this clear and it is this generic script with some modifications learnt from the prvious lessons and from reading the other material I have come across along this journey, that I have ended up using.

One question remains - If I was using a PHP page in DW to define the form does the rest of my page content reside on the same page and if so do all of the usual internal/external links etc still work?

90% there and with a better understanding - Thanks!! :D
