View Full Version : Setting Image as a Background?

Hello all,

I'm creating a webpage in which I'd like to set an image as the background, and then place other small images on top (in front of) the background and use them as links, and also be able to type text on the background image.

Does anyone know how to do this in Dreamweaver?

Hey John, I'm in Florida too! And new here too... we have so much in common... B)

Okay, do a control-J and get out your page properties. Set the page name and the background image (you can browse for it).

Then you can add layers to put in absolutely-positioned graphics and text boxes. To add a layer, be sure to be in "standard view" and go to Insert --> Layer, or click on that box next to "Standard View / Layout View" in the Insert tab (it's next to the icon to insert a table). This will allow you to "draw" the layer. You can "nest" layers by placing your cursor inside the first layer, then do Insert --> Layers to put one inside the other. The advantage of this is to make sure that layer moves with the parent one, in case someone resizes their browser, etc.

You can put images or text inside a layer.

Go to Project VII's website, they have extensions for DW that are AWESOME, allowing you to make layers appear and disappear (more powerful than Show/Hide Layers)... its at http://www.projectseven.com/ ('http://www.projectseven.com/') ... go to Extensions, be sure to read the tutorials, they are quite powerful (therefore complicated).
