I just wanted to get peoples opion of OEM sofetware. I've been to different forums asking the same questions?

Is it legal?
Do you really get what you pay for?

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

I have not purchased OEM software, but I've seen some things written about it.
As far as I know, most of us have dealt with OEM software one way or the other. When my Dell came preloaded with software, those were OEM.

Some businesses sell OEM only (or bundled with a cheap cable), and it might be you're referring to those. I think they're legal, there's nothing inheridently illegal with OEM software. There is a question, however, if the software producer (ie Microsoft) will let you register the product, give you rebated upgrades or even offer support on it. You won't get the manual or any other item normally associated with the software. That is what the full version is intended for.

If anyone has purchased OEM software this way, I'd love to hear about the experiences as well.

OEM is legal, and as above, yes... it means that all support goes with the re-seller and NOT the software house that produced it.
